Incredible. Those who recognize the pattern of duality of sexes built into how reproduction works on this planet, selective evolution, DNA patterns, patterns of movements of energy and forces in chaordic ways.... little puffer fish nest. |

Yeah, seems to take a lot of effort. That fish is smarter than a lot of guys. I never did get any results from the old being drunk and saying "Do you want to dance?" technique. |

All jokes aside... How does a puffer fish construct two concentric perfect circles? |

One amazing thing about humans is our intuitive understanding of ballistics (the trajectories of launched objects). Humans can throw basketball through a hoop 10 ft (3.048 m) above the ground. To do that, they have to launch the ball with just the right amount of force, and at just the right angle, for it to travel in along a parabola and go through the rim. The force and angle needed vary, based on distance from the goal, one's one height, whether one is standing or jumping, etc.
If the target is moving (for example, a receiver in (American) football running across the field, we also have to evaluate speed and distance, to "lead" the target just right. In addition to setting up the right ballistic trajectory. It's all done intuitively, but there is still some instantaneous decision making going on. I suppose it's a skill that evolved with humans and gave them a weapon for survival. Being able to launch a missile (a stone, a spear or an arrow) in a proper arc and hit an animal or an enemy gave the species a pretty nice offensive capability.
I suppose that also might explain why apes at the zoo fling poo-- our cousin primates are also natural-born object flingers. Besides, it gets a fun reaction, and those annoying gawkers deserve it anyway. |
